The inhabitants of the United States have a deep affection for their pets, leading the world in both dog and cat populations.1 There is a diverse array of dog breeds that capture people’s preferences across the country, with certain breeds enjoying more popularity than others. The choice of dog breeds, however, varies from state to state. In Texas, people keep pets not only as companions but also as working dogs.
While Texas may not claim the top spot for the highest number of pet owners, it certainly doesn’t rank lowest either. Texas holds the 28th position in pet ownership in the U.S. Among the 58.2% of households in the state that own pets, 47% of them have dogs.
